Heligoland 01:48
in heligoland my ship has just come in in the docks, where the seagulls flock, off-loading all our sin in heligoland where all roads seem to end in the square, i'll see you there, and sell you to my friend (chorus) i've heard the tales of this long lost place where love will take your hand no matter where you look for me i'll always be in heligoland in heligoland they sky's so crystal clear in the clouds, the planes are loud, making me disappear in heligoland our paths will never cross in the woods, changing moods, counting what i've lost (chorus) i'm the breeze in the trees i'm the apple of your eye i'm the ache in your heart i'm the finger in your pie i'm heligoland i'm the turn of the tide, i'm the voice of your dreams i'm the lump in your throat i'm the son of your beams i'm heligoland

Black Ice 02:25
i don't mind what you say to me 'cos i've got a mind, that splits in two or three you'll never find the real heart of me she doesn't care what she does to you she only cares, that what you say is true she'll never find the real heart of me spinning out of control i'm spinning out of control you got a smile to melt the blackest ice she won't smile, won't listen to my advice she'll never find the real heart of me we got time to find the sunny day all the time, you drive the clouds away we'll never find the real heart of me spinning out of control i'm spinning out of control
4.
a single point of light shines in the distance just the wind at my side as i walk along the shore so i stare out to sea towards these island eyes (chorus) you say you saw the wood i say you saw the trees you were pushed along by the wind i was carried by the breeze a single drop of rain is at home in the ocean a startling realisation is buried way down deep and everything is blue as these island eyes look at you (chorus) we hear the sea and we took a dive into the depths of these island eyes
5.
i was too late; the maiden cried i stayed in on a friday night books to read and books to write i was alright; the maiden lied no need to hide though the carnival is calling don't make me go back to that place the bright lights are appalling and they're shining right in your face i'm much happier yawning in my own dark little space nice to see you; the maiden lied i went out on a friday night i just thought of something better to write f*ck you all; the maiden cried no place to hide the carnival is packing up they decided to pass me by the big city is cracking up the dust settles in my eye empty jugs stacking up as i wave them all goodbye trumpeters and jugglers knocking at my door a mad corsair and his dancing bear are banging on my floor bearded girl and lobster boy are texting me on my phone but super stan, the psychic man just knows to leave me well alone

Ratrace 02:59
the world puts out a call straight to my phone why should i answer, leave me alone but there's nothing left to say except, “ don't pick me up. ” the world writes a letter straight to my door and falls down to join me, lying on the floor but there's only one reply, “ don't pick me up. ” the world projects a vision straight to my mind of the horror and sorrow that awaits humankind but the pain and confusion says, “ don't pick me up. ” the world carves out its heart and i'm afraid of the dark the world sicks up its soul and i'm just getting old the world coughs up its lungs and i feel like being young the world cries the last of its tears and my love of life disappears the world comes to its end and i was never picked up by a friend
9.
Palsir 02:25
the end is coming no time for running the sky is burning and i'm turning into nothing like you (chorus) i'm the first born of your kind i'm the last thought in your mind the end is passing the lands are massing the air is clearing as i'm nearing where the clouds form your name (chorus) i must say (the end . . .) that was really worth my while (is the beginning) i have to admit (the beginning . . .) you were really worth it (is the end) i must say (the end . . .) that was really worth my while (is the beginning) i have to admit (the beginning . . .) you were really worth it (is the end)

what happens at the end of the country road? will i meet someone who will give me what i'm owed? so many stories just waiting to be told time to hear them all before i grow too old chickens in the dirt a-pecking at my hurt strangers on their porches eyeing me going through the town at night they bring their torches come and burn me down what happens when i reach the factory gates? open your eyes and just wait for what awaits the rhythm of the machine that my father hates punch in, punch him out, gotta pay the rates devils in the dust scratching at my trust strangers on the line watching me go by when it comes to time they will hang me out to dry what happens to me as they snuff out my life? i laugh in their faces as they watch me die i look down from above and cry
11.
i caught you thinking now we're both wide awake no one is talking 'cos everyone aches i feel like drinking ourselves to death the distance between us is all that is left (chorus) the great and the good we did what we could the good and the great and now it's too late i stole your glance when you turned away you told me stories and let me have your say i saw the pages that you never wrote and between the lines is the only thing we've got (chorus) you told me you saw me and i told you what to do you told me you still need me but i told you what to do you told me you saw me and i told you what to do you told me you still need me but i told you what to do
12.
so humble and defenceless i would kneel at your shrine so endless and relentless your everything is mine i'll put on a bruise for you to show you how i don't feel it's not just a myth locked inside your mind it's not just the truth that you will find so sorry and broken i tower over your shrine a hollow victory token knowing you'll never be mine i'll stick on a bruise for you to show you how i can't feel it's not just a fantasy locked inside your mind it's not just the facts that you will find i pray to myself that you should not exist i convince myself that you would not be missed i wanted to believe that you could not exist i was deceived you were sorely missed it's not just a dream locked inside your mind it's not just the answers that you will find
13.
all that water under the bridge and now my banks are dry i don't want to bring you down with me as i float sadly by clashes to ashes water into wine trust to rust sand into time of your life raise your eyes to heaven as they lay me in the ground this is the last hurrah but i'm not making a sound masses in glasses waters intertwine crust to must waste of the time of your life

Seventh (demo) album, 2006

"They have this thing called the grey itch. It's when a man - I think it's particular to men, although probably women have something similar - comes to the end of youth, or what your perception of youth is. Which is really just the attainability of your dreams."
